Patrizio Menchetti is a lawyer qualified in Italy and member of the Milan Bar and Brussels (E List) Bar. He is fluent in English, French and Italian. He focuses his practice on information technology, data protection, intellectual property, competition, telecommunications and generally high technology matters.

He has assisted several telecom and Internet operators as well as registries for top-level domain names in regulatory, data protection and IP matters; media companies in privacy and IP-related issues; and the European Commission with the assessment of telecoms liberalisation in Luxembourg.

He has also been retained by the European Commission as an expert to evaluate projects in the context of the Internet Action Plan. Patrizio is a visiting professor to Padua University, where he currently is a member of the Steering Committee of, and holds the chairs of administrative law of electronic communications and e-commerce law in, the LLM programme in Internet law established by the Department of International Studies.

He is the author of several publications and articles, in Italian and in English, including the section on Italy in 'International Privacy, Personality and Publicity Laws' and 'Legal Aspects of Standardisation in Italy' in 'Legal Aspects of Standardisation in the EC and EFTA'. Patrizio earned a magna cum laude law degree from the University of Siena.

A former trainee with the European Commission's 'Competition' Directorate-General, before entering private practice he served as an in-house lawyer, inter alia with ENI and Alcatel Italia Network Division.
